India started their campaign in the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Cup tie in Thiruvananthapuram today with a 2-0 win over Sri Lanka. Both the goals were scored by Robin Singh who was later substituted following an injury. At half time, both the teams were goal-less. India play their next match on Sunday when they take on Nepal. India , Sri Lanka and Nepal are placed in Group A of the tournament.Sri Lanka had struck a late winner against Nepal in their first match on Wednesday. Maldives notched up a comfortable 3-1 victory over Bhutan to open their campaign on a winning note in group B yesterday. In the second match of group B yesterday, Afghanistan beat Bangladesh 4-0. Afghanistan are the current champions of SAFF.
