India beat Nepal 4-1; enters semi-finals of SAAF Football championships

Six times champion India today beat Nepal 4-1 to reach the semi-finals of the South Asian Football Federation Cup in Thiruvananthapuram. Nepal stunned India early on with a goal in the third minute. India came back very well to equalise through Rowlin Borges. At half time, India and Nepal were 1-1. In the second half, skipper Sunil Chhetri scored the second goal. Mounting the pressure on Nepal, eighteen year old Lallianzuala Chhangte who had come on for Sanju Pradhan, scored the third and the fourth goal for India and became the youngest Indian scorer of all times. The two semi-finals of the tournment will be played on Thursday when winner of group A will take on runner up in group B and winner of group B will take on runner up in group A. The final of the tournament will be played on 3rd January. India have beaten Nepal once in their last three recent clashes while the other two have been drawn encounters and are now group toppers. Because of an early exit for Nepal today, Sri Lanka too had progressed to the semifinals along with India. Sri Lanka, the third team in the group, had ended their league engagements with three points and a goal difference of minus one.
