India, B’desh to increase coordination to check infiltration

India and Bangladesh have sought to increase coordination between the two sides to check cross-border movement of terrorists and criminals without causing any damage to the civilians. On the concluding day of the four day border coordination meeting in New Delhi today, the BSF Director General Raman Srivastava and BDR Director General Mainul Islam, said in a joint statement that the two border forces were keen to enhance mutual cooperation. In an exclusive interview to All India Radio DG BSF Raman Srivastva expressed confidence that there will be much more enhanced cooperation in the coming days. <br/><br/>On the issue of insurgents and terrorists taking shelter in Bangladesh after committing crimes on Indian side the DG,BDR,Major General Mainul Islam told our correspondent Manikant Thakur that there is no place for terrorists and criminals in Bangladesh. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that the issue of terrorists' movement came under sharper focus after the Rapid Action Battalion recently arrested five operatives of the Pakistan-based terrorist outfit JeM from Dhaka on 28th of last month. One of the arrested JeM operatives, Nannu Mia alias Billal Mandal, reportedly told his interrogators that he had helped the terrorists involved in hijacking of the Indian Airlines flight IC 814 on December 24, 1999 to cross over to India from Bangladesh. On action against Bilal, the BDR Chief said action would be initiated as per legal provisions. The BDR and BSF are also working on a Joint Border Management plan to ensure better coordination between the two forces. The BDR chief presented to his BSF counterpart a draft Joint Border Management Plan. The BSF officials will now examine the draft and give their suggestions.
