India-Bangladesh to jointly celebrate Tagore`s 150th anniversary

India and Bangladesh will jointly celebrate the 150th Birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. The opening ceremony of the Celebrations will be held simultaneously in both the countries in May next year and will continue till 2012. A nine member Indian delegation will visit Bangladesh tomorrow to finalise the Joint Celebration. The delegation during its four day visit will hold discussions with Bangladeshi authorities on various aspects including exhibitions of Tagore's paintings, Seminars, Workshops, Commemorative Publications on Tagore and Joint productions of dances and dramas based on stories written by Tagore.The delegation headed by Ministry of Culture Secretary Jawhar Sircar will also deliberate on instituting a Tagore chair at Dhaka University, awarding noted Tagore Scholars and constituting a tourism circuit to places related to Tagore in both countries including Jorasankho, Shantiniketan and Shilaidaha. AIR Correspondent reports that it was during Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India in January this year that the two countries had decided to jointly celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Tagore.
