India and Bangladesh have decided to increase the number of border haats or markets to boost local trade and commerce among them. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Bangladeshi counterpart, Ms Sheikh Hasina agreed on this during a delegation level talks between them at Teheran this evening on the sidelines of the NAM summit.
AIR Correspondent quoting official sources, reports that both the leaders reviewed the progress on trade, security and power sector. India has converted the credit line of 200 million US dollar into grant out of the one billion US dollar line of credit given to Bangladesh.
During the meeting India reiterated its stand for ratification of land and border treaty between the two neighbouring countries. On Teesta water sharing issue, Dr Singh said that consultation continues.
On the proposed Tipaimukh dam, India assured Bangaladesh that it will not do anything against Bangladesh’s interests. External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon and Foreign secretary Rajan Mathai were present during the talks.
