India, Bangladesh sign MoUs on border haats

India and Bangladesh have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate operation of border haats and also agreed on the modalities for trade through these haats. <br/> <br/>The MoU was finalised at the end of the two day meeting of the India -Bangladesh Joint Working Group on Trade in Dhaka on Friday. While the Indian Delegation was led by Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce Arvind Mehta, the Bangladesh Delegation was led by Ruhal Amin Sarkar. <br/> <br/>According to sources, the border haats will initially be set up on a pilot basis at two places along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya. The two day meeting also discussed ways and means to promote bilateral investments by organising trade fairs and exhibitions. Bangladesh has also provided a list of 61 items to be removed from the negative list to enable increase in exports to India. The two day meeting reviewed the progress made on various other trade related issues which were agreed to in the joint statement issued during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India in January this year.<br/>
