India, Bangladesh sign historic protocol on land boundary agreement

India and Bangladesh have signed a historic protocol on land boundary agreement following the talks between Prime Minister Dr. Mahmohan Singh and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.The two Prime Ministers also signed a framework agreement on cooperation for development between the two countries. In a joint statement, after signing two agreements, Dr. Singh said that signing of the protocol on land boundary will resolve all issues relating to un-demarcated boundary areas, enclaves and land under adverse possession. Dr. Singh also announced that India will permit free access to 46 textile tariff lines from Bangladesh to Indian market.Bangladesh Prime Minister described the meeting as a historic moment in bilateral relations and also added that the framework agreement on cooperation and development is a visionary document that looks not just on the reality today but also the potentials of on Tuesday.The two countries also signed MoUs for cooperation in renewable energy sector, fisheries, co-operation between Bangladesh Television and Doordarshan and cooperation in education between Dhaka University and Jawaharlal Nehru University and Bangladesh Institute of Fashion Technology and India’s National Institute of Fashion technology.Apart from this, India and Bangladesh also signed a MoU on Conservation of Sundarbans and Conservation of Royal Bengal tigers in addition to the MoU between Bangladesh and India to facilitate overland transit traffic between Bangladesh and Nepal.
