India, Bangladesh JWG on Security meeting concludes

The India Bangladesh Joint Working group on Security meeting in Dhaka concluded on Monday evening with both sides finalising the agenda for the 13th round of Home Secretary level talks scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

Mr. Shambhu Singh, Joint Secretary (North East) and Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Political) led the Indian and Bangladesh delegation during the talks.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Joint Secretary Mr. Shambu Singh said that the two sides discussed all issues with the objective of further cementing the friendly relations between the two countries. Bangladesh’s Additional Secretary Kamal Uddin Ahmed said that various issues related to security co-operation including matters related to an extradition treaty were discussed and final decisions will be taken during the Home Secretary level talks scheduled to be held on Tuesday.

Home Secretary Mr. R.K Singh will be leading a ten member delegation comprising senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, BSF, Narcotics Control Bureau and External Affairs during the talks with the Bangladesh delegation which will be led by his counter part Mr.C.Q.K Mushtaq Ahmed. Earlier in the morning, both the Home secretaries visited the Agartala-Akhaura Land Custom stations on the India-Bangladesh border with the state of Tripura to review the status of the infrastructure at the integrated check post.
