India and Bangladesh are holding a joint census in the enclave areas along the border as a part of the process to resolve the outstanding land boundary issues. The census exercise involving officials from both India and Bangladesh will be conducted over the next three days and is aimed at estimating the number of people living in these areas. According to a mutually reconciled list of enclaves agreed to by both sides, there are 111 Indian enclaves in Bangladesh and 51 Bangladeshi enclaves in India. External Affairs Minister S.M Krishna who visited Dhaka last week to hold talks with his Bangladeshi Counterpart Dr. Dipu Moni had said that both countries are working towards comprehensive resolution of the land boundary issues.
