India, Bangladesh discuss border security issue

India on Wednesday urged the Bangladesh government to sensitize people to follow the legal routes to cross the border and also restrict movement of people near the border areas in the night.India expressed this view during the two day meeting of the joint working group on security which concluded in Dhaka on Wednesday.During the discussions the Indian delegation also expressed its sympathies and regret on the recent death of a minor girl in a firing incident by BSF near the India-Bangladesh border at Fulbari in Kurigram.The joint working group also finalized its report on various issues related to bilateral security co-operation and border management. The Report was taken up for discussions at the 11th Home Secretary level talks between the two countries which began in Dhaka later in the afternoon.Home Secretary G.K. Pillai is leading the Indian delegation while his Counterpart Abdus Sobhan Sikder is leading the Bangladesh delegationAIR Correspondent reports, the 11th Home Secretary level discussions between India and Bangladesh began in Dhaka on Wednesday following the conclusion of the meeting of the Joint working group on security issues.The discussions are focused on the report submitted by the joint working group on security which covers various issues related to smuggling of arms, narcotic drugs, activities of extremists and terrorists, insurgency, trafficking of women and children, repatriation of prisoners, border fencing, incidents of firing on the border and immigration issues.Both sides have expressed the hope that report submitted by the Joint working group on security after discussions for the last two days in Dhaka will help the Home Secretaries of the two countries in taking steps to further strengthen bilateral security co-operation which will be outlined in the joint statement scheduled to be issued on Thursday.
