The third India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission met in New Delhi today.
The main focus of the meeting was broadly on the areas of commercial ties, connectivity and enhancing cooperation in development partnership.
The meeting was co-chaired by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Bangladesh counterpart Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali.
Briefing reporters after the meeting External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that Bangladesh has agreed to allocate land for a special economic zone for India and extend cooperation to Indian businessmen to invest there.
He said, the two Ministers agreed that all barriers to trade should be removed to promote balanced bilateral trade and address non-tariff barriers.
The spokesperson said, Bangladesh delegation gave a list of barriers to trade being faced by exports from Dhaka.
He said, an MoU on Nalanda University was signed during the meeting.
In reply to a question, Akbaruddin said that the issue of extradition of top ULFA militant Anup Chetia was discussed in the meeting.
In reply to another question he said, Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh will meet on the margins of UN General Assembly in New York in the last week of this month.
On Chinese incursion in Chumar in Ladakh sector the spokesperson said, India has taken this up at highest level and process is being carefully followed and outcome is awaited.
