India started their campaign in the 2015 Commonwealth Youth, Junior & Senior Weightlifting Championships with a bang, winning more than two dozen Gold medals on the first day of the competition in Pune Monday. The likes of Sukhen Dey, Sanjita Chanu and S Mirabai Chanu enabled the home team to clinch maximum Gold medals in the men and women's categories respectively.In 56 kg men's division, Sukhen Dey lifted 108kg in snatch (Silver) and 136 kg in clean & jerk (Gold) for a total effort of 244 kg to bag the yellow metal. Jamjang Deru lifted 242 kg for a Silver medal finish.Jamjang also bagged Gold in all three categories — snatch, clean & jerk and overall — in both 56 kg junior men's and 56 kg youth boys' sections.Jamjang, in the process, created a national youth record in snatch event with a lift of 107 kg, bettering his own record of 103 kg set during the Yamuna Nagar Youth National Weightlifting Championships on January 18 this year. In 48 kg senior women's category, Sanjita Chanu lifted 81 kg in snatch (Silver) and 101kg in clean & jerk (Gold) for a total of 182 kg to clinch the Gold medal, while S Mirabai Chanu picked up 81 kg in snatch (Gold) and 100 kg in clean and jerk (Silver) for an overall 181 kg to settle for Silver. In 53 kg senior women, Matsa Santoshi (190kg) and Pramila Krisani (189kg) bagged the top honours.In 48 kg Youth Girls division, Mohini Chavan won the Gold with a total lift of 146 kg, thus bagging yellow metal in all three categories. Pooja Gupta claimed the Silver medal after lifting 141 kg, winning the second position each in snatch, clean & jerk and overall.Pooja also finished second in each of the three categories in the 48 kg junior women.In 44 kg youth girls section, T Priyadarshini clinched the Gold with a lift of 128 kg to claim the top position in all three categories.
