With a Gold Medal in Long Jump, a Silver in Discus Throw and a Bronze in 10,000 metre race, the Indian contingent on Thursday got off to a ballistic start on the opening day of the 19th Asian Championships in Kobe, Japan. In Long Jump, Mayookha Johny leapt 6.56 metres in her second jump to open India's Gold medal account on a rain-hit opening day at the Kobe Universidad Stadium. China's Lu Minjia won the Silver while the Bronze went to Japan. Commonwealth Games Silver medalist MA Prajusha finished sixth.Vikas Gowda bagged a Silver Medal for India in the Men's Discus throw event as he finished second with an effort of 61.58 metres, behind Iran's Ehsan Hadadi who recorded 62.27 metres to claim the coveted yellow metal.Indian runner, Preeja Sreedharan settled for a Bronze in the Women's 10,000 metre race. Preeja, who has been struggling to reach her peak form, clocked 33 minutes 16.55 seconds. The Gold and Silver Medals in this event went to Bahrain while another Indian Kavita Raut ended sixth.A 35-member Indian team was earlier participating in the continent's top competition but eight of the athletes, including some Asian Gold medalists were dropped after testing positive in the dope test.
