India awaits as Mary Kom fights semis today

All eyes will be at London's Excel Arena today where MC Mary Kom will slug it out in the semifinals to become the first Indian boxer to book an Olympic finals berth. In the semi-finals of the 51-kg category, five-time world champion MC Mary Kom will take on local favourite and World Number 2 Nicola Adams of Great Britain at 6:15 PM (Indian Standard Time).

By storming into the semi-finals, the 29-year old Manipuri pugilist had assured India of at least a bronze medal in this category, which means that India will have its biggest medal haul at the Olympics this time around.

Meanwhile, spotlight will also be on pugilist Laishram Devendro Singh, who is scheduled to play the quarterfinals of the 49-kg division tonight at 1:15 AM (IST). Devendro will face Paddy Barnes of Ireland in the quarters and a victory will ensure India of at least a bronze medal in the Men's Light Flyweight category.

In Athletics, India's Tintu Luka will be seen in action in the opening round of the Women's 800-metre race. The event will begin at 4:05 PM (IST).
