India are assured of another medal on the last day of competitions at the London Olympics today, after wrestler Sushil Kumar made it to the final of men's 66 Kg Freestyle category. Sushil will face Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu of Japan in the gold medal bout. 2008 Beijing Bronze Medalist, Sushil defeated Kazakastan's Akzhurov Tanatarov in the semifinals. This is the best performance ever by any Indian wrestler in Olympics. Sushil has earlier defeated Ujbekistan's Ikhtiyor Navruzv in the quarterfinals and 2008 Beijing Gold medalist Ramazan Sahin the prequarters.
Sushil's medal would be India's second in Wrestling at these games. Yesterday, Yogeshwar Dutt has won a Bronze in the men's 60kg freestyle category wrestling to earn India's fifth medal. Yogeshwar fought back strongly in the repechage rounds to notch up three successive victories in the space of less than an hour to win the Bronze. The medal came when Yogeshwar pulled off a spectacular 3-1 victory over North Korea's Ri Jong Myong in his third bout of the repechage.
Earlier, Yogeshwar lost against reigning world champion Besik Kudukhov of Russia in the pre-quarters. But the Indian stayed in the race for the bronze as the Russian had reached the final.
Today, In Track and Field, India's Ram singh Yadav will be seen action in the men's Marathon event.
The 2012 London Olympic Games will end with a glittering closing ceremony tonight, which will be titled “A symphony of British Music.” The flag bearers of participating delegations will enter the Olympic stadium and athletes of all the country will walk together. The ceremony will also see the extinguishing of the Olympic flame. The Mega event will end with the promise of meeting again in 2016 games which will be hosted by Rio-de-Janeiro.
