India asks Pak to extradite co-conspirators of 26/11 attack

India has demanded Pakistan extradition of co-conspirators responsible for 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks even as special court awarded death sentence to the lone surviving Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab. Speaking to newsmen outside the Parliament House the External Affairs Minister Mr. S.M. Krishana said that in the light of the sentence and investigation into the Mumbai terror attacks the conspirators should be extradiated. The Minister also said that he will talk to his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi to discuss the modalities for reducing trust deficit between the two countries. <br/>Replying to the Rajya Sabha Mr. Krishna said India has decided to have dialogue as there has been transformation in ties with the assurance coming at the level of Pakistani Prime Minister that India's core concern on terror will be addressed adequately.<br/>The death sentence to Ajmal Kasab for the 26/11 attacks was welcomed by political parties with Congress, BJP and Left maintaining that it should send a strong message in the fight against terrorism.<br/>Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said that India has emerged a prouder democracy governed by not only rule of law but sobriety and balance BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said, the message to Pakistan should be loud and clear that India cannot tolerate attacks on it. <br/>CPI general secretary A B Bardhan said that the judge must have considered all aspects and sentenced him on several counts. <br/>Reacting to the verdict, Law Minister M Veerappa Moily said, the verdict in the 26/11 case was a message to Pakistan that it cannot meddle in the country's affairs. He said, the verdict sends a message to all terrorists that if they land in India, they will meet the same fate. <br/>On the other hand, Pakistan reacted in a guarded manner to the death sentence handed down to its national Ajmal Kasab by the Indian court. Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said in Islamabad that legal experts in Pakistan will study the detailed judgement. He, however, strongly condemned the horrific Mumbai attacks. <br/>In a related development, the US said it will make sure that justice is delivered to the perpetrators of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and that it has conveyed the same to Pakistan government. Briefing reporters in New Delhi , US Ambassador Timothy J Roemer said they had lost six Americans in 26/11 attacks and America also wants to make sure that justice is delivered.<br/>Earlier, Special Judge M L Tahaliyani sent Kasab to the gallows on five counts — mass murder, abetment of murder, waging war against the Indian state, conspiracy and terror, offences covered under Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The death sentence will be subject to confirmation by the Bombay High Court.<br/><br/>
