India has asked Norway to return the two Indian children who have been separated from their parents and placed in foster care to their family. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today the External Affair Minister Mr S.M Krishna said that he has spoken to the Foreign Minister of Norway and asked him to find an amicable and urgent solution.
Mr. Krishna said that after talking to Norwegian Charge d Affairs in New Delhi Aslak Brun, he is hopeful of an early solution on this issue. Mr. Krishna said that these children are Indian nationals, and the government as also their extended family, have a legitimate right to protect the interests of the children.
The External Affairs Minister also informed that he has told the Norwegian government that India has a strong constitutional and legislative framework and institutional mechanisms to protect the rights of the children.
There can be no doubt that the interests of the children would be looked after in the best possible manner in India. Speaking on the issue of expiry of visa to the parents of concerned children Mr. Krishna said that this matter will also be resolved.
