<br/>New Delhi says it will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure safety and security of Indian students in Australia. Making a suo moto statement in the Lok Sabha today that External Affairs Minister Mr. S.M. Krishna said that India will work with Australia closely to improve their security and safety. He informed the House that the issue has been strongly taken up both with Australian authorities at the federal and the state levels and they have been fully appraised of the gravity of the situation. Mr. Krishna said that the Australian government has already taken a series of measures to improve security and surveillance of students. He said however there are some several complex factors involved and the issue needs to be dealt with in a concerted and coordinated manner. He said the Australian government has also set up a high level working group to deal with this issue on an urgent basis. Giving details of the incidents in Australia he said it is estimated that almost half a million Indians including students are living in Australia and the relations between the two countries are expanding rapidly for the last few years.
