India- ASEAN trade to cross $ 70 bn in next 3 years

The trade between India and ASEAN countries will cross 70 billion dollars in the next three years. This was revealed by Joint Secretary in Ministry of Commerce and Industry Sumanta Choudhuri while briefing reporters on the forthcoming India-ASEAN Business Fair to be held in New Delhi. Mr Choudhuri said that in 2010 trade between India and ASEAN nations reached its maximum as it crossed the 50 billion dollar mark. The figure stood at 41 billion dollars in 2009. He attributed the increase in trade to the Free Trade Agreement in Goods between India and Association of South East Asian Nations which came into effect in January last year.
