The United States has said that India becoming a member of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) will strengthen international non-proliferation.<br/><br/>State Department spokesperson Elizabeth Trudeau said in Washington that New Delhi has demonstrated to all MTCR partners a sustained commitment to non-proliferation.<br/><br/>She said India has a legally based, effective export control system that puts into effect the MTCR guidelines and procedures, and administers and enforces such controls effectively.<br/><br/>Ms Trudeau told reporters at her daily news conference that all 34 current members, including the United States, agreed India met the standard required to become an MTCR member.<br/><br/>In a separate statement issued by the State Department, the US welcomed India's accession as the newest member of MTCR.
