India-Arab League underline need for peaceful solution to Syria crisis

India and the Arab League have underlined the need for finding a peaceful solution to the crisis in syria. The matter came up at the meeting between External Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna and the Arab League Secratary General Nabil al Arabi in Cairo today. The two leaders shared the views on wide range issues in the Arabic world and West Asia region.

Earlier, addressing Indian Ambassadors and Heads of Mission of the region S.M.Krishna called for evolving a new mechanism to timely redressal of the grievances of Indians facing distress situations. He asked them to interact faster with them to help them. There should be improvement in the quality and timely delivery of services at the Indian consulates and embassies. He said ,Indian Ambassadors will now designate two hours every week to meet such Indian in distress. All Embassies will have an earmarked welfare officer who will be accessible on the open days to meet Indian national every week . According to new accountably system ,Ambassadors will monitor the responses.

Those attended the meeting also include Indian envoys from Morocco, Algeria, Palestinian authority,Algeria ,Lebanon. This is the first leg of Krishna's visit to the region.
