India appreciates US decision to exempt New Delhi from financial sanctions

India has appreciated the US decision to exempt New Delhi from financial sanctions in the wake of purchase of Iranian oil. The External Affairs Ministry's Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said in New Delhi today that the decision was taken by the U.S. Government under its domestic law. He said, the Indian financial institutions have been exempted from the application of the provisions of U.S. domestic law for energy-related transactions with Iranian Central Bank and other financial institutions designated by the U.S. Government.

The spokesperson further added that India and the United States have a growing strategic partnership. The India-US Strategic Dialogue on Wednesday, will once again demonstrate the strength of the bilateral relationship and cooperation, based on the shared values and convergent interests.
