India announces aid package for victims of attack on consulate in Jalalabad

India has announced 150 thousand dollar assistance to the victims of last Saturday's unsuccessful suicide bomb attack on the Indian consulate in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

Indian Ambassador Amar Sinha visited Jalalabad and met with Nangarhar Governor Gul Agha Sherzai. He thanked the governor, the security forces and the people of Jalalabad for thwarting the terrorist suicide attack on the Indian consulate.

Shri Amar Sinha also met with the families of the victims and visited the hospital to inquire about the injured. Under the assistance package announced by the Indian Ambassador 10,000 dollar will be given to the family of each person killed in the attack.

He also announced 20,000 dollar for the treatment of those wounded in the attack. Indian Ambassador announced 10,000 dollar for the repair of the mosque damaged during the blast near the Indian consulate in Jalalabad.

Nangar Governor appreciated India'a assistance to Afghanistan and said that the people of Jalalabad are always ready to protect the Indian consulate. Reiterating India's commitment towards the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan Ambassador Sinha said such cowardly attacks will never deter India to help build a sovereign, stable and peaceful Afghanistan.

Nine people were killed and two dozen others wounded in an unsuccessful attack on the Indian consulate in Nangarhar on last Saturday. Most of the dead and wounded were children attending a madrassa inside the mosque.
