India announces 75 million dollar financial package for Seychelles

India today announced a 75 million US dollar financial package for Seychelles. This includes 50 million dollar line of credit and 25 million dollar for development. After talks with her Seychellian counterpart James Michel, the President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil held wide ranging discussions on a host of issues.

Talking a relations to a new height, the two countried signed pacts to train police pesonnel in research and development and cooperate in the areas of youth and sports affairs.

Addressing the Extraordinary session of the National Assembly of Seychelles today Mrs Patil called for comprehensive and sustained fight to deal with the menace of terrorism.The president asserted that sustainable peace can achieved by effectively dealing with terrorism and curbing the acts of violence and conflicts. She said terrorism has become more complex with the challenge posed by piracy.

Mrs. Patil said, this is affecting India as well as Seychelles, and many other countries by threatening security of sea-lanes of trade and communication.

Speaking on the occasion the Seychellian President James Michel thanked India for supporting his country in the fight against piracy and the support in legal, Judicial and Police reforms.

Seychelles also sought greater business cooperation with India specially in the field of energy and technology.
