India has announced 2.5 million US Dollars in aid for small states of the Commonwealth to help them combat climate change.<br/><br/>External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said in Malta's capital Valletta on Saturday that New Delhi has announced the aid for trade finance facility for small nations of Commonwealth.<br/><br/>He said, Commonwealth has 31 small states as its members out of the 53 countries and trade finance is very important to them.<br/><br/>He said, the 24th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, CHOGM in Valletta deliberated extensively on combating climate change and a number of countries pledged their financial assistance to island nations of the grouping.<br/><br/>Mr Swarup said, India played its role in the deliberations making it very clear that we should not try to pre-judge the outcome of Paris COP21.<br/><br/>India also emphasized the need to ensure adequate funding for developing countries so that they meet their Intended Nationally Determined Contributions, INDC targets.<br/><br/>The spokesman said the CHOGM summit will adopt the final documents today on key decisions.<br/> <br/>Commonwealth leaders have agreed to set up a one billion dollar Green Finance Facility to help the poor nations introduce clean energy and bring down green-house gas emissions.<br/><br/>External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj represented the country at the summit. The session on climate change was attended by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and French President Francois Hollande.
