India and Uzbekistan sign trade agreement of over 200 million US dollars, besides pacts on strategic sectors

Trade agreements worth over 200 million besides several agreements in strategic sectors have been signed between India and Uzbekistan. The agreements were signed following the delegation level talks between the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and the visiting Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov in New Delhi today. The important sectors include oil and gas, hydrocarbons, minerals and metals, pharmaceuticals, information and communication technology, besides, agriculture, cotton and other fields. Both the countries also discussed bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual concern. According to sources, the security scenario in the region besides ways and means to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan was also discussed.Speaking at the ceremonial reception at the forecourts of Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi this morning, Mr.Karimov said that India is a growing power and India's participation in the global affairs is of vital importance. Mr. Karimov strongly pleaded for India's membership in the expanded UN Security Council.Mr. Karimov arrived in New Delhi last evening on a two-day state visit. He will also call on the Vice President and the leader of opposition.
