India -Nepal are to hold the first ministerial level meeting on Water resources and energy in New Delhi on 15 th of this month . India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Mr. Jayant Prasad said in Kathmandu on Friday that bilateral relations between the two countries has been progressing smoothly on various fronts.
India and Nepal have agreed to carry out joint feasibility study on the Sapta Koshi multi-purpose project which will be completed by the end of 2013. The project will combine irrigation facilities , flood control system, power generation of 3000 megwatt, a 269 metre waterway.
Mr. Prasad said with the integrated Check post at Raxaul and Jogbani in India would cut time by sixty per cent for vehicles entering Nepal as they would handle customs work . He added that India has been taking steps so that power can supplied to Nepal in the shortest time possible while the World bank aided project of upgrading the transmission lines from Muzaffarpur -Dhalkebar would take time .
The Ambassador was speaking at a function where he launched a documentary higlighlithing Nepal-India relation showcasing historic ties and India’s assistance to Nepal in development, health and education sectors. Mr. Prasad expressed optimism that the peace process and the constitution drafting will be completed within the time frame and said the very presence of the Constituent Assembly is the bedrock of multi party democracy .
He added that the real test of the constitution would come in the implementation post promulgation.
