India and Nepal sign MoUs to increase connectivity

India and Nepal today signed two pacts to enhance connectivity between the two countries. A new air services agreement was signed between the External Affairs Minister and the his Nepalese counterpart after delegation level talks between the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and the visiting Nepalese President Ram Baran Yadav at Hyderabad House this afternoon. A MoU on development of railway infrastructure on five border points along the Nepal border was also signed for this purpose. Apart from this, two MoUs for development of Nepal-Bharat Maitri Polytechnic and establishment of Nepal Bharat-Maitri Sabha in the Himalayan nation was also signed. AIR Correspondent reports that the leaders of the two countries have delegation-level talks for about an hour and also held one-to-one talks focussing on the whole gamut of relations between the two countries. Official sources said that enhancing trade and partnership and strategic cooperation apart from sharing of waters is believed to have figured prominently in the discussions between the two leaders. Projects worth two thousand crore rupees are in progress in Neapal in infrastructure and other fields and the visit will help in speeding up the implementation of these projects and also identify new areas of cooperation. About 60 per cent of Nepalese trade is with India and New Delhi is the biggest investor in that country with its share at 44 per cent.<br/>S.M. Krishna. The Chairperson of UPA, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and the leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Mrs. Sushma Swaraj will also call on him. Dr. Yadav would call on his counterpart, Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil later in the evening. <br/><br/>The Nepalese President arrived in New Delhi on Monday.<br/>
