India and Mozambique sign three pacts

India and Mozambique have signed three pacts including an agreement for avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with regard to taxes on income. The two sides have also signed MoUs for cooperation in the areas of mineral resources and micro, small and medium enterprises. The agreements were signed after the delegation level talks between the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and the visiting Mozambique President Armando Guebuza in New Delhi today. Later, at a joint press meet, the Prime Minister also announced enhancement of a credit line of 140 million US Dollars to five hundred million to Mozambique for its infrastructure development, agriculture, energy and capacity building. Describing the visit of Mr. Guebuza, as a beginning of a new chapter in the relations between the two countries, Dr. Singh said they have set a target of taking their bilateral trade to one billion US dollars by the year 2013. Dr. Manmohan Singh said that they have also decided to create partnership on the four pillars of greater cooperation in the areas of defence and security, economic and political ties as well as capacity building and human resource development. The two sides also expressed concern over the safety and security of Indian ocean. The Mozambique President said that both sides will cooperate in the struggle against piracy and terrorism and make Indian ocean peaceful and safe. Mozambique also invited Indian businessmen to invest in their country. Addressing the captains of industry in New Delhi later in the day, the visiting dignitory said that his country is richly endowed with coal, gas, oil, iron, precious stones, diamonds and gold. Indian businesmen could invest in these sectors for mutual benefit.Describing the talks with Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh as excellent and successful, Mr. Guebuza hoped that India will successfully host the Commonwealth Games and extended his country's full support for it.
