India and Iran have discussed key bilateral, regional and international issues including combating global terrorism and energy security in Teheran. Both sides also exchanged the Instrument of Ratification for the Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Prisoners signed in July 2010, thereby, operationalising the agreement. Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao, who is in Tehran for ninth round of Foreign Office Consultations, held talks with her counterpart Mohammad Ali Fathollahi on Wednesday evening. According to a release issued by External Affairs Ministry in New Delhi, discussions also covered issues like the North- South Transport Corridor, developments in Afghanistan and regional security and stability. Mrs Rao also called on Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi. It was agreed that the next meeting of the India- Iran Joint Commission will be held in Tehran at an early date.
