India and China agree to expand cooperation in several fields

India and China have agreed to expand cooperation in several fields including sports. Bilateral and international relations came up for discussion during the talks between President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil and her Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao in Beijing today. The President also had talks with Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and Chairman of National Peoples Congress Wu Bangguo. The two sides later signed 3 agreements including visa clearance of airlines staff, cooperation in the fields of Sports, civil services, personnel management and public administration.The agreements were signed in the presence of President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil and her Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao at Great Hall of the People.AIR correspondent Sunil Shukla covering President visit to China reports that the India side was represented by Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and Indian Ambassador at Beijing Dr. S. Jaishankar and Chinese side by Assistant Foreign Minister of Hu Zhengyue, Minister of State Wang Xiao Chu and Vice Minister Liu Peng at the signing ceremony.In her interactions with Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and Chairman of National Peoples Congress Wu Bangguo, Mrs.Patil emphasized the need for better strategic and cooperative relations between the two countries. Recalling Wen Jiabao's visit to India in 2005, she said that he has been instrumental in building a strategic cooperation and partnership between the two countries. Mrs. Patil said, her visit is the reaffirmation of the long existing relationship between both the countries.Welcoming Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Chinese President Hu Jintao said, her visit will go a long way to further enhance mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation.Earlier, President Pratibha Devising Patil was given a ceremonial reception by Hu Jintao inside the Great Hall of the People. She was given 21 gun salute and later she inspected a Guard of honour. After ceremonial reception, delegation level talks were held and the Agreements were signed.
