India and Australia to hold top level delegation talks in New Delhi today; Nuclear Cooperation Agreement high on the agenda

Prime Minister of Australia Tony Abbott will hold delegation level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today. Mr Abbott will also meet President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

India and Australia are likely to sign a Nuclear Cooperation Agreement which will allow New Delhi to procure the uranium for power generation. Five rounds of negotiations have been successfully completed between the two sides on supply of uranium. Agreements in the areas of finance, education, mining and water conservation are also expected to be signed.

Mr Abbott will be given a Ceremonial Reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan this morning. The Australian Prime Minister, who is on a two day visit to India, reached New Delhi Thursday evening. He reached Mumbai Thursday morning as a part of his two-day visit to India to deepen the strategic ties and strengthening two-way trade commerce.
