India among fastest growing economy despite global slowdown: Arun Jaitley

Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley today said that despite global slowdown trend, Indian economy is one among the fastest growing economy. Referring to the Brexit, he said India is slowly emerging as an economic power which can withstand any global trends. He said India is one of the few economies on which Brexit outcome had a minimum impact. <br/><br/>Addressing the first National conclave on Mines and Minerals in Raipur the state capital of Chhattisgarh, Union Finance minister said NDA government has decided that different national resources will be allotted only through auction mode instead of other practices, including first come first serve basis, followed earlier. <br/><br/>He said the policy has not only brought in transparency but also boosted government revenue. He said a part of this revenue would be spent on the development of districts where mining activities are taking place for improving the lives of the people in respective areas. <br/><br/>Earlier, the National mineral exploration policy has been unveiled during the conclave by Union minister for mines and steel Narendra Singh Tomar and Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh. <br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said the objective his ministry was to take such steps to ensure that mining's contribution to country's GDP grew up to six per cent from the existing 2.4 per cent. He said the procedures for granting mining lease has been simplified further by vesting powers with the state governments to grant mining leases. <br/><br/>Tomar said all the 6000 reports of Geological Survey of India are being digitalized for making it available on the web and efforts are being made to encourage private sector participation in exploration of minerals. Besides, he said a process has been started to extensively use space technology to check illegal mining. <br/><br/>Addressing the conclave, Chief Minister Raman Singh announced that state Government will reimburse the entire fees of the children of rehabilitated families in the mining areas for higher education from the district mineral fund. He said DMF fund will also be used for developing and upgrading railway and road infrastructure. <br/><br/>He said the state government would do a detailed mapping of all mineral resources available in the state in the next three years.
