India were all out for 338 in the second innings against host Srilanka. The visitors avoided an innings defeat gaining a lead of over 95 runs on the final day of the first Cricket test at Galle. The visitors were made to follow on by the Lankans who bowled them out for 276 runs in the first innings. Muttaih Muralidharan took his historic 800th wickets by claiming Pragyan Ojha. He has become the first bowler in test cricket. In their second innings, Srilanka were 16 for none when the last reports came in.
