In reply to Sri Lanka's 183, India were 218 for 2 in the first innings on Day 2 of the Galle Test, when reports last came in. The visitors had resumed play at the overnight score of 128 for 2. Shikhar Dhawan was playing on 105 and skipper Virat Kohli on 82. Earlier, spinner R. Ashwin registered his best away bowling figures of 6 for 46 as the hosts were bundled out for 183 after opting to bat first. Skipper Angelo Mathews top scored with 64, while Dinesh Chandimal made 59. Veteran wicket keeper-batsman Kumara Sangakkara, who is playing his penultimate Test, could only make 5.This is the opening Test of the 3-match series, and Sangakkara will retire after the second game which will be played in Colombo from the 20th of this month.
