India again test fired the indigenously developed surface-to-air Akash missile from the test range at Chandipur in Odisha on Saturday. The missile was successfully test fired on Thursday from the same test range. DRDO officials associated with the project said that the relaunch is meant to revalidate the technology and operational efficiency of the missile. It has a strike range of 25 kilolometers with a warhead of 60 kilograms. Akash, an anti-aircraft defence system can simultaneously engage several targets.
