India, Afghanistan to discuss ways to combat terrorism

India and Afghanistan will discuss ways to combat the common threat of terrorism during the three day visit of Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmay Rassoul to New Delhi, beginning today. During his stay in the national capital, Mr. Rassoul will call on Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and brief him on the evolving situation. Zalmay Rassoul will hold delegation level talks with the External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna on a host of issues. Kabul has openly accused Pakistan's military-intelligence of harbouring the Taliban and the Al Qaeda. Amid various proposals about the reintegration plan in Afghanistan India has already made it clear that it backs the Afghan government. However, New Delhi has insisted that the Taliban renounce violence, cut off links with terrorism and accept the Afghan constitution. Official sources said that the two sides will also discuss the security of around 4,000 Indians involved in various professional and reconstruction activities in Afghanistan. AIR correspondent reports that it is the first Afghan ministerial visit to India after WikiLeaks, an online whistle-blower, revealed extensive involvement of Pakistan-backed terror groups in attacks against Indian personnel and interests in the violence-torn country.
