India advocator new world order based on multi-lateral trade regime

Making a strong pitch for a new world order, Union Industry and Commerce Minister Mr Anand Sharma today said multi lateral trade regime which is rule based, fair and meets the aspirations of the developing economies should be put in place, In his address to the 16th Partnership summit which began in Chennai, he said India hoped that the present WTO negotiations will bring a positive outcome. Stressing the need for reforming global institutions, he said the UN, World bank and the IMF can no longer ignore Asia, Africa and Latin America.<br/><br/>Mr Anand Sharma said that developed nations need to share their resources and technologies with countries which need them to eradicate hunger, meet the threat of pandemics and tackle key issues affecting mankind.<br/><br/>Calling for collective response to meet global challenges, the minister said partnerships define the emerging paradigms. He said as national boundaries are becoming less relevant, economic integration is defining growth.<br/><br/>Dwelling on India’s Look East policy, Mr Anand Sharma said India’s constant endeavour is to bring about greater regional economic integration. Inviting investments into the country, the minister said the country remains as one of the most attractive investment destinations in the world. He said the government will be spending close to 550 billion dollars during the current five year plan to develop world class infrastructure.<br/><br/>The Malaysian Prime Minister Mohammed Najib Abdul Razak's speech was read out by the country’s Trade Minister. In his address, he said globalization should be more inclusive and countries should be given flexibility and space to respond to change.<br/><br/>The Maldivian President Mohammed Naseed in his key note address said the country is open for business and sweeping changes have been made in the last one year since the country made a peaceful transition to a multi party democracy.<br/><br/>The Deputy minister of Tamil Nadu Mr M.K.Stalin in his address said the state has emerged as the hub of manufacturing in the country and is among the top three states in attracting Foreign Direct investment.<br/><br/>The two day conclave jointly organised by the industry and commerce ministry and the cii , is being attended by trade and industry ministers, business delegations from several countries.
