India achieves re-affirmative decision on Public Stockholding for Food Security: Govt

Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today said India has achieved a re-affirmative Ministerial Decision on Public Stockholding for Food Security purpose during the 10th Ministerial Conference of World Trade Organisation. The conference was held in Nairobi of Kenya from 15th to 19th of this month. Making a statement in the Lok Sabha, Ms Sitharaman said, the decision commits the member countries to engage in finding a permanent solution to the issue. She said, the outcomes of the Conference known as 'Nairobi Package' contains Ministerial Decisions on agriculture, cotton and issues related to Least Developed Countries, LDCs. <br/><br/>The decision also covers Special Safeguard Mechanism for developing countries, a commitment to abolish export subsidies for farm exports particularly from the developed countries. She said, besides, the future of Doha Round of Trade negotiation which began in 2001 was also discussed. The Minister said, the India has taken stand that the Doha Development Agenda must continue. She also said India negotiated hard to ensure that the WTO continues to place the interest of developing countries and LDCs at the centre of its agenda.
