In Assam, indefinite night curfew has been clamped along the Assam and Meghalaya border in Goalpara district after Garo militants gunned down 7 persons last night. Another nine persons are undergoing treatment. Official sources said that the night curfew will be in force from 7pm to 6am within 2 kilometers inside Goalpara from the inter-state border.
Senior police officials are in Goalpara to take stock of the situation. Search operation is on to nab the culprits. The army, CRPF and the Assam police are maintaining a strict vigil along the boarder. Eight fixed pickets are being set up in Goalpara district to ensure free and fair Rabha Hasong Council polls to be held from 13th of this month in three phases.
Senior officials including the Chief Secretary are holding a high level meeting in Guwahati now. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who is in London now has instructed four ministers to visit Goalpara to take stock of the situation.
