Indefinite Darjeeling bandh peaceful so far

In West Bengal, the indefinite bandh call given by the Gorkha Jana Mukti Morcha in Darjeeling hill is so far peaceful. Today is the third day of the bandh. The Morcha is demanding creation of separate State of Gorkhaland. There were some stray incidents of violence in Dooars region of Jalpaiguri district yesterday. Morcha leadership also held a peace meeting with the district civil and police administrations and discussed the situation arising out of the Sibchu police firing in which two activists of Morcha lost their lives. A large number of people are stranded at various places including at Siliguri due to bandh. Morcha sources said they will review their agitation programme this evening. Meanwhile district police authority had lodged cases against those who allegedly damaged the Govt. property in various parts of Darjeeling district. The CPI-M has blamed Trinamool Congress behind the latest violence in the Darjeeling hills. The party's state secretary Biman Bose said in Kolkata that this is part Trinamool Congress's designs to create lawlessness in West Bengal ahead of the Assembly polls.
