Indefinite curfew clamped in Assam’s Gopalpur dist

In Assam, indefinite night curfew has been clamped along in Assam and Meghalaya border in Goalpara district after Garo militants gunned down 7 persons last night. Another nine persons were undergoing treatment. Official sources said that the night curfew will be in force from 7 pm to 6am within 2 kilometers inside Goalpara from the inter-state border.

Senior police officials arrived in Goalpara to take stock of the situation. Search operation is on to nab the culprits behind the firing and security has also been intensified. The army, CRPF and the Assam police are maintaining a strict vigil. Eight fixed pickets are being set up in Goalpara district to ensure free and fair Rabha Hasong Council polls to be held from 13th of this month in three phases.
