Union Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah has called for increased local manufacturing of solar power equipments. Addressing a function of solar industry in Mumbai on Thursday, He said though the country needs to cooperate with other nations for technologies, it is high time that we start manufacturing equipment as we cannot depend on others forever. Mr. Abdullah's statement came three days after the US dragged India to World Trade Organization over solar power projects that allow only local equipments. United States on Monday had challenged the domestic content requirement in the mission at the WTO, alleging it was discriminatory and against international norms.
