The last date for filing of Income Tax Returns has been extended to 5th of August. In a last minute decision, the Central Board of Direct Taxes extended the deadline, which was till today, for filing Income Tax Returns. <br/><br/>Income Tax department said in a tweet that date has been extended in view of the difficulties faced by taxpayers.<br/><br/>The decision was taken after a meeting of the revenue department and the Central Board of Direct Taxes held in the finance ministry today.<br/><br/>The last minute inundation and heavy logging on the official website of the e-filing portal of the department led<br/>to the extension of five more days for filing the ITRs by taxpayers.<br/><br/>Government also decided that for e-filing return, it is sufficient to quote Aadhaar or acknowledgement number for having applied for Aadhaar in e-filing website. <br/><br/>The actual linking of PAN with Aadhaar can be done subsequently, but any time before 31st August. However, the returns will not be processed until the linkage of Aadhaar with PAN is done.
