Income tax employees hold day-long strike today

Over 50,000 employees of the Income Tax Department are on a day-long countrywide strike today to press for their service-related demands. The two prominent groups Income Tax Employees Federation (ITEF) and Income Tax Gazetted Officers' Association (ITGOA) representing about 97 per cent of the department's workforce are participating in the strike. <br/><br/>Talking to the All India Radio, President Income Tax Employees Federation Ashok K Kanojia, said that employees are very upset over government attitude towards their demands. He said CBDT has not responded to demands till today. The associations have given a five point charter of demands which includes the delay in promotions and appointments in the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), promotion of income tax officers to assistant commissioners and other lower (B to C) category posts within the department.
