The Centre has asked state governments to take necessary steps for inclusion of villages with 100 to 80 per cent tribal population in the list of Scheduled Areas. Taking note of the fact that several such villages were left out from the Scheduled Area list, Union Tribal Affairs Minister V Kishore Chandra Deo said yesterday that this needs to be looked into urgently. He said, there are several such villages, which have not yet been included in the Scheduled Area list and this has hampered the implementation of several government projects for forest dwellers. The Ministry conducted a day-long meeting to take stock of implementation of Forest Rights Act by various states and asked them to take necessary steps to hasten the process of benefiting maximum number of forest dwellers.
