Incident-free new year eve for Delhiite

It was an incident-free new year eve for Delhiites. None lost their lives due to road accidents in the national capital on the New Year eve when police prosecuted close to 500 people for traffic violations, including 388 for drunken driving. Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Satyendra Garg, said that this was the second time in the past three days when the capital did not report a single fatal accident. He attributed this to the increased presence of police on the roads who were enforcing traffic rules. Last year, a total of 189 revelers were prosecuted for driving under the influence of alchohol. A total of 274 persons had been prosecuted for drunken driving during the new year eve. Anybody found driving or attempting to drive a vehicle with an alcohol level above 30 mg per 100 ml blood faces imprisonment up to six months or a 2,000 rupees fine or both. If it is a subsequent challan, they may end up getting a jail term of up to two years or a fine of 3,000 rupees or both.
