Incheon Asian Games: Indian Archers bag their first Gold medal

After a week into the Incheon Asian Games, the wait for the 2nd Gold is over as Archers bagged their first ever yellow metal, this morning. In the Men's Compound team event, the trio of Abhishek Verma, Sandeep Kumar and Rajat Chauhan defeated champions South Korea, 227-225. Shooter Jitu Rai had won the first Gold on the opening day. Earlier today, in the Women's section, the team of Trisha Deb, Purvasha Shende and Jyothi Vennam defeated Iran, 224-217 to win a Bronze. In the men's compound Individual section Abhishek Verma settled for a silver as he lost to Iran's Esmaeil Ebadi 141-145 in finals. In the women's compound Individual section, Trisha Deb clinched bronze after defeating Huang Jao of Chinese Taipei 138-134.Squash brought third medal of this Asian Games as Indian Women's team settled for a silver after loosing to Malaysia Nil-2. Earlier, a bronze and a silver was in the Indian kitty from Individual events. The Men's team will also meet Malaysia in the gold medal match, later in the day.In Shooting, Chain Singh bagged Bronze in the Men's 50-metre Rifle-3 Positions, to take India's overall medals tally to 2 Gold, 4 Silver and 17 Bronze.In other results, grapplers Vinesh and Geetika Jakhar lost their semi-finals bouts of their respective categories. They will compete for bronze.In Boxing, MC Mary Kom booked a place in the quarterfinals. Laishram Sarita Devi and Pooja Rani are yet to play their last-16 bouts. In the Men's section, Mandeep Jangra and Gaurav Bidhuri will play for semi-final berths in their respective categories.In Tennis, Yuki Bhambri sailed into the semi-finals today, beating Thailand's Danai Udomchoke 6-3, 6-2. Sania Mirza along with her women's doubles partner have entered the semi final she will now figure in the Mixed Doubles quarterfinals, in a short while.The Men's Hockey team will meet China in a group match.Athletics events are also beginning from today. Preeja Sreedharan, Sudha Singh, Narayana Shraddha and Poovamma Raju are among the Indians who will look to progress in their respective events.China is currently at the top of the medals tally, with Korea second and Japan third. India has climbed to the 11th spot.
