Incessant snowfall led to closure of Jammu-Srinagar National highway

Kashmir Valley was cut off from rest of the country on Thursday as incessant snowfall forced closure of Jammu-Srinagar National highway with over 100 vehicles stranded, and cancellation of all flights to and from the international airport in Srinagar. The snowfall also prompted authorities to close schools, which were kept open to compensate for the loss of studies during the five-month-long summer unrest, in the Valley where normal life was paralysed with people preferring to stay indoors.Officials said, the 294-km highway, connecting the Valley to the rest of the country, was closed this morning after moderate snowfall in Qazigund and Jawahar Tunnel area.
