In West Bengal, the landslides triggered by incessant rain during the past 36 hours in Darjeeling hills caused extensive damages in about eight tea gardens in Darjeeling district. According to reports, large number of house properties, small bridges and culverts have been damaged and road link in the interior areas has been completely cut off from the district headquarter. Large chunk of tea garden land and tea bushes were washed away by the landslides in these tea gardens. Over a dozen of major and minior landslides have been reported from adjoining areas of Darjeeling and Kalimpong sub divisions of the district.However no loss of lives have been reported from anywhere from the district sofar. A dozen people injured in the incident have been admitted in different hospitals.The toy train service between Darjeeling and Kurseong has been disrupted due to landslide at various places on its route.Report received from Jalpaiguri said vast areas were inundated following 200 metres breach in the embankment of Ghish river.Mal subdivision SDO Narayan Biswas said 160 families of the areas have been shifted to safer places and they are being provided essential relief materials.Red signal has been hoisted in unprotected areas of Teesta rivers, and Yellow signal given in rivers Teesta and jaldhaka.
